Plane Flips Over in Toronto Airport Crash, 18 Injured

A plane crashed and flipped onto its back at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon, injuring 18 passengers, officials said. The accident happened after a weekend of heavy snowfall that had already caused flight delays and cancellations.

The Delta Air Lines flight was coming from Minneapolis to Toronto with 76 passengers and four crew members on board. According to Deborah Flint, the president and CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), all passengers and crew were accounted for. She mentioned that 22 of the passengers were Canadian, while the rest were from different countries.

"We are very thankful that no lives were lost and that injuries were relatively minor," Flint told reporters. She praised the airport's first responders, calling them "heroic" for their quick actions.

"Our main focus is taking care of the passengers and crew," she added. "Some have already reunited with their families, while others are being looked after in a comfortable area at the airport, where they are receiving support from our staff."

On Monday night, the GTAA confirmed that 17 injured passengers were taken to the hospital right away, and another was transported later. Delta Air Lines also stated that a total of 18 people were injured in the incident.
